YMCA Somerset Coast is the parent charity of Barley Wood Nursery. YMCA Somerset Coast has headquarters in Bridgwater, and has branches throughout North Somerset, West Somerset and Somerset. In addition to our Early Years settings YMCA Somerset Coast works with over 20,000 children and young people each year. Our mission is to:
Champion and value to young peoples lives by providing experiences that challenge, develop and enable the individual.
YMCA Somerset Coast has five Strategic Aims, three of which are delivered by our nurseries:
- Delivering Child Care Excellence
- Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
- Supporting Families
A further two aims focus on providing facilities for older children and young people and their families.
Many children and their families who join a YMCA nursery will continue to benefit from attending our facilities long after they have left the nursery, throughout their schooling and beyond. Aims of YMCA Somerset Coast Nurseries
We aim to provide a secure and stimulating environment in which children can develop emotionally and intellectually, as well as morally, physically, spiritually and socially, all at their own pace. All aspects of development are interwoven and of equal importance. The wide range of activities and experiences offered are intended to enrich the overall development of each individual child.
We aim to:
- Provide warmth, care and security.
- Encourage the development of self-esteem.
- Promote a positive self-image.
- Enable children to express feelings and to cope with fears, anxieties and difficult experiences.
- Help children to reach their full potential.
Through their enjoyment of play, which provides opportunities for all areas of development, children will learn and grow in a safe and stimulating environment.
